COSA is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated membership officer who will report to the Chief Executive Officer, and work closely with the Executive Assistant and Communications Manager. This is a new position, focused on enhancing COSA member engagement, and developing and maintaining relationships with COSA members to ensure their best possible membership experience.

The role best suits someone with well-developed organisation and people skills who can multitask, be proactive and is passionate about working in the not-for-profit sector. The hours are flexible, and the role may require occasional work outside of regular hours and interstate travel. We offer flexible work arrangements and a hybrid work environment.


The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Build and strengthen COSA’s membership base and the engagement and participation of members in COSA activities
  • Maintain regular contact and build relationships with COSA members
  • Develop and implement strategies to attract, retain and engage COSA members
  • Implement membership renewal process
  • Increase membership numbers
  • Increase member attendance and participation at COSA events
  • Manage member testimonials
  • Respond promptly to member and prospect queries
  • Oversee member services as required
  • General membership and related business administration
  • Maintain membership database records
  • Assist at member events, particularly the COSA Annual Scientific Meeting
  • Assist in updates of website content
  • Manage competing priorities and needs of multiple stakeholders while meeting the demands of a fast-paced, diverse environment
  • Work with the professional volunteers of the COSA committees, meeting their competing needs, and at the same time ensuring COSA’s strategic objectives are not compromised
  • Contribute to the overall well-being of the organisation and avoid participation in any activity that might be harmful to the good operation, health, or reputation of the organisation
  • Be alert to any unsafe work practices or environments and take steps to ensure that no staff member or visitor is placed in a position potentially dangerous to themselves or others
  • Other duties as instructed by the Chief Executive Officer


  • Demonstrated experience in a similar membership management role
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and maintain relationships with ease
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Good attention to detail
  • Highly motivated and an excellent problem solver
  • Proficient working with Microsoft Office 365 applications, web-based content management and databases
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to work autonomously within a hybrid environment
  • Full working rights in Australia


  • Experience with websites and social media platforms
  • Knowledge of, and/or experience in, the healthcare system – particularly oncology
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, the not-for-profit sector
