Description

Recently established, Governology Pty Ltd is a boutique incorporated legal practice with a passion to assist not-for-profit organisations, particularly associations, to achieve their mission through good governance and contemporary company secretarial practice.

This role would suit a lawyer who is interested in developing an understanding of good corporate governance through working with a range of clients in the not-for-profit sector. The successful candidate will work alongside three other legal professionals possessing detailed knowledge of and experience in the not-for-profit sector.

This role involves advising a range of clients in the not-for-profit sector.

Tasks may include:

·       Liaising with clients to analyse and determine the nature of problems, and recommending and undertaking appropriate actions;

·       Providing support to senior lawyers including preparing and reviewing company and incorporated association constitutions, advising on corporate structures, taxation law and governance;

·       Preparing letters of advice and undertaking legal research;

·       Learning to apply and adapt Governology’s in-house templates;

·       Assisting in preparation of draft letters of advice on a variety of areas of law affecting Governology’s client base including association and corporate law, governance, mergers and amalgamations, disputes and contract drafting;

·       Assisting in presentation of governance training modules;

·       Assisting in the management of client files;

·       Assisting in Governology’s marketing activities (as required).

Technical competencies

The successful candidate will hold a practising certificate allowing them to practise law and the right to work in Australia.

Experience with the not-for-profit sector and an understanding of company secretarial matters and corporate governance, through experience or training, is ideal, as is a passion for working with the associations sector.

Experience with typical office computer applications is expected.

Personal competencies
The successful candidate will have, or will be developing:

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills using Plain Legal Language principles.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to establish priorities, manage time and adapt to change
  • Project management skills – ability to keep track of project milestones and deadlines and providing regular updates to client
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others
  • Strong research skills.

 

Not-for-profit or charity law, Corporations Law and/or Company Secretarial experience is highly desirable.

 

Further Details

Ideally, the position is 4-5 days a week, however, candidates looking for casual, part-time or full-time work are encouraged to apply. Our offices are at Artarmon on Sydney’s north shore, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work mainly from home. Full training will be provided.
