Company Profile
New South Wales Bar Association
Company Overview
The New South Wales Bar Association is the peak body representing barristers in NSW. The Bar Association advocates for members and is responsible for the maintenance of standards within the Bar; manages admission to the Bar, continuing professional development and, under delegated authority, investigates conduct matters involving complaints against barristers. The Bar Association also takes a leading role in promoting the rule of law and the proper administration of justice. In that role the Bar Association comments on a range of areas of law reform and liaises with the judiciary, government, the media and other stakeholders.
The Bar Association has a strategic role in the marketing of the Bar and the practice development of our members both nationally and internationally. The Strategic Plan incorporates the following initiatives:
Internationalisation of the law: Increasingly disputes and litigation are not limited to NSW – either geographically or the parties involved. The New South Wales Bar must respond to the increasing globalisation of litigation and the provision of legal services. The Bar Association seeks to promote the New South Wales Bar as a provider of legal services beyond NSW, focusing initially on Australia/NZ and South East Asia.
Marketing and promoting the work of barristers: To ensure Bar Association members remain engaged in the marketplace and consumers of legal services perceive the Bar as a viable and cost effective option – especially in the earlier stages of litigation.
